GoGuardian Quick Start Guide
GoGuardian Teacher Quickstart Guide
For ECPS teachers
Use this guide to open your rostered class, monitor student Chromebook activity during a lesson, and end the session. The classroom list is synced through Clever, so report missing or incorrect rosters to district technology staff.
Before class
1 Sign in. Open teacher.goguardian.com and use your district-authorized sign-in method. If prompted on your first visit, review and accept the Teacher terms.
2 Check your classes. On Active Classes, find the class you teach. Clever-synced classes appear there automatically. Open a class to check its students before you begin. If a class or student is missing, send the class name, student name, and school to district technology staff so the Clever roster can be checked.
During class
3 Start a session. On the class tile, choose a session length or custom end time. Turn Chat on if you plan to message students, then select Start Class. Students who are signed in to their school accounts on devices with GoGuardian installed join automatically.
4 Watch the Screens view. Confirm students appear. Online and connected students show their active tabs. Select a student tile for a closer view and additional controls. A status message on a blank tile gives the next troubleshooting clue.
5 Guide the lesson. Use Open Tab to send a lesson link. Use a private Chat to help a student, or an Announcement for the class. Lock screens briefly when you need attention, then unlock them to resume work.
After class
6 End the session. Select End Session when instruction is over. If you need more time, choose Update Time and set a new end time. Past sessions can be opened from the class Sessions tab to review timelines, screenshots, commands, check-ins, and chat logs when available.
Classroom practice. Use GoGuardian alongside normal classroom supervision. Check the selected class and session end time before applying controls.
Common teacher controls
|
Control |
Use |
|
Open Tab |
Sends a URL to selected students. If a student has no active tab, ask them to open Chrome first. |
|
Close Tab |
Closes an unwanted browser tab from a student’s expanded screen view. |
|
Lock or Unlock |
Pauses browser windows during the session. Unlock students to resume work; the lock also clears when that session ends. |
|
Chat or Announcement |
Messages one student or broadcasts to the class when Chat is enabled. |
|
Exclude Student |
Temporarily removes an absent student from the Screens and Timeline views without changing the roster. |
Use a Scene for website limits
A Scene applies website rules during an active class session. From Scenes, create an Allowed Websites List when students should access only listed sites, or a Blocked Websites List when you need to block specific sites. During a session, choose the Scene Applied menu to select your Scene. Test needed lesson sites first; an allowed list can block resources that a site loads from other domains.
Quick fixes
Class or student missing Check that you opened the correct class. Clever is the source for integrated rosters; send the missing information to district technology staff.
Device Unavailable Ask the student to confirm the school account, restart the Chromebook, and reconnect. If the status persists, report the student, device, class, and exact status message to district technology staff.
No Active Tab Ask the student to open a Chrome window, then try Open Tab again.
Site blocked unexpectedly Check whether a Scene is applied. A district filtering rule may also be involved; send the URL and the on-screen block message to district technology staff.
